I only have a Fujitsu-manufactured chip in my collection. :P
Variant: 8086
The Intel 8086 is the first chip by Intel to utilize its namesake "x86" architecture, which was rapidly popularized by the rise and subsequent dominance of
IBM's PC and its clones, collectively known as "IBM PC-Compatibles". This rapid adoption of a standard architecture is still seen today with the near-monopoly of
x86 on the desktop hardware market.
Variant: 8088
Also known as the iAPX 88, the Intel 8088 is a lower-cost version of the 8086, with the main difference between the two chips being the 8088's eight data lines, as opposed to the 8086's sixteen.
The 8088 is notable for being the basis of the original IBM PC, whose subsequent clone systems would come to dominate the PC landscape.
